Oral history interviews with Sheila Linton, 1990-1991.

Linton recalls her experiences as an African American at a predominantly white university. She discusses her work in grantmaking for the Glenmede Trust Company, especially the Black Colleges Program, general grantmaking procedures, the evolution of the staff into specialized grantmaking areas, the advisory committees and the trust-initiated programs (TIPs), and the Foundation Collaborative Summer Jobs Program. She discusses her teaching experiences in Philadelphia after she left Glenmede, her work with the African-American Family Reunion Planning Committee at Temple University, and a trip she made to GoreĢe Island in Senegal.

Shiela L. Linton was born on December 19, 1950 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Elvere and Harold Linton. Her family lived in South Philadelphia until 1959 when they moved to West Philadelphia. Her father was a tailor and her mother was an administrative assistant. She had one sister. Linton attended Huey Elementary School, Tilden Junior High School, and Bartram High School in Philadelphia.
